Structure fires strike Davis home, daycare

DAYCARE FIRE. Smoke came billowing out of Wolf Pups Daycare on Highway 77 south on Saturday afternoon. The fire broke out on a weekend when no children or staff were inside. A donation account to help raise funds for rebuilding has been set up at Vision Bank.
Two fires in three days kept the Davis Fire Department unusually busy.
A house fire during the late night hours of June 10 is still under investigation. According to Davis Fire Chief Michael Deaton the Davis Fire Department was paged to a structure fire at 201 South 5th Street and arrived on scene at 10:36 pm. “A total of 6 apparatuses and 14 firemen were on scene,” Deaton said. The fire was located in the living room. Firemen left the fire at 11:59 p.m. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Davis Fire Department was paged to Wolf Pups Daycare at 638 Hwy. 77 South (Wolf Pups Daycare) for a structure fire on June 13 at 2.52 p.m. and arrived on scene at 2:57 p.m. A total of 7 units and 16 firemen were on scene, including assistance from Hennepin Fire Department. “On arrival flames were showing out of the front door, east window and north window,” said Deaton.
The daycare was closed. Lisa Smith said she and her husband had just dropped off items at the daycare and started receiving phone calls the daycare was on fire right as she made it home. Smith’s biggest worry at the time of the fire was where all of the kids attending her daycare would go while she makes plans to rebuild.
The fire department extinguished the blaze and was released by the property owner at 5:09 p.m. The cause of the fire is undetermined.
Parents are rallying around Smith and her daycare staff to help rebuild and restore what was taken by the fire. A donation account for Wolf Pups Daycare has been set up at Vision Bank. Those wishing to make a donation to help Smith can do so at any Vision Bank in the area.
A Facebook post by another Wolf Pups mom is making its rounds with items on an Amazon wish list that will aide in the reopening of the daycare. This account and Facebook page will be on The Davis News Facebook page.
