Chamber plans activities for local shoppers, businesses this Christmas

Elf on the shelf. This Elf will be displayed in local businesses for a special promotion this year.

We’ll just call COVID-19 the Grinch that stole area Christmas activities this year.
The Davis and Sulphur Chambers of Commerce are making the tough decisions to cancel several community Christmas activities due to a recent rise in the number of COVID-19 cases.
An email statement from the Davis Chamber of Commerce read in part: After considering the recommendations of local officials, lack of participation and the most recent mandates from State officials, the Davis Christmas Committee has canceled the Christmas Parade and Tree lighting Ceremony. Out of respect for the safety of our community, The Davis Chamber cannot promote events that encourage gatherings of large crowds.
Things to remember
The Christmas ad is published with all of the sponsoring businesses listed and other Christmas events or activities continuing as planned.
The City Christmas Tree at the Chamber will still be decorated and lit on Dec. 1 for all to enjoy.
The Business Store Front Decorating Contest will proceed as planned with voting done through Facebook to help promote our local businesses through social media.
Business Storefront Decorating deadline will be Dec. 7. The Chamber Christmas Committee will post pictures of each entry on the Davis Chamber Facebook page for voting and announce the winner the week of Christmas. The winner will be presented with a plaque.
This year has no particular theme. Last year there were over 3000 views of the Business Decorating Contest so this is a great way to promote your local business. Last years winner and reigning champion is The Vintage Wolf Tattoo Studio.
Elf on the Shelf
The Keep It Local is continuing with the “Elf on the Shelf” promotion to encourage shopping at local businesses.
The Davis Chamber of Commerce would like to introduce you to Jingles the Elf. Please display him in your business anywhere you’d like. If you didn’t get a photo of Jingles, please contact the Davis Chamber of Commerce for one today.
Encourage your patrons to take a picture of Jingles and post the photo on their Facebook page tagging your business and the Davis Chamber of Commerce in their post. The person posting the photo will have to like your business page and the Davis Chamber of Commerce Facebook pages. This fun event will begin Friday, Nov. 27 and end on Wednesday Dec. 16.
There will be ten $100 cash prizes. All posts that contain the tagged business and chamber will be eligible to win. The drawing will take place on Thursday, Dec. 17 and posted on the Davis Chamber of Commerce Facebook page by noon.
We hope Jingles helps put a little extra “jingle” in your pockets this year by increasing your patronage and helping promote your business through social media.
Sulphur Chamber of Commerce Opening Night
“Due to the increase in COVID-19 cases in our area we have made the difficult decision to cancel our opening night festivities on November 28th. Our downtown shops will be open for Small Business Saturday and we encourage everyone to safely shop their wonderful sales! We will turn the downtown lights on at 6 p.m. for all to enjoy,” said Tori Burba, executive director of the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce.
The parade of lights on Monday, Nov. 30 will continue as scheduled. The parade route is long enough for people to safely social distance and in some areas you can view the parade from the comfort of your own vehicle. We hope everyone stays safe this holiday season.
For questions or concerns please contact the Sulphur Chamber of Commerce at (580) 622-2824.
