The Davis junior high wrestling team travelled to Bethel on Jan. 9 and hauled home a load of gold and silver medals. All 11 wrestlers placed in the top four of the pool-style tournament and the team finished with the second-best winning percentage of any team in the event and just 1.5 points out of a third-place trophy.
The Wolves had five champions on the day. Baer Webb, Rance Digby, Kallee Boatwright and Brenden Rawls were all 5-0 and Rickey Ivey won the tournament with a 4-1 record.
Coming second were Mitchell Garrison (4-1), Ethan May (4-1) and Jett Jennings (3-2). Mason Tomlinson also went 3-2 to take third place and Landon Spruell went 1-3 and finished fourth.
The Bethel tournament replaced the Pauls Valley tournament for Davis after that event was canceled. The high school added a tournament at Tuttle on Jan. 22-23 as it’s replacement. Then, the state decided to overhaul the entire wrestling schedule this week, including the Regional, State and Dual State tournaments. The current schedule, which almost certainly will see more changes, can be found online at www.ossaarankings.com/Default.aspx?sel=ssch&sc=10&t=102093.
