Nickey Jack “Nick” Blackburn

Funeral services for Nickey Jack “Nick” Blackburn were held 10 a.m. May 14, 2021, at the Assembly of God Church in Sulphur, with Pastor Bobby Allison officiating. Interment, with military honors, followed at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
Blackburn was born Sept. 19, 1942, in Globe, Ariz., to the late Joseph and Edith (Moore) Blackburn. He died on May 10, 2021, in Sulphur, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 21 days. Blacburn and the former Ms. Emily Christine Tannehill were united in marriage on Oct. 2, 1999, in Sulphur.
Blackburn grew up in Arizona, graduating from Glendale High School. He joined the United States Navy on June 28, 1961, and served until he received an Honorable Discharge on June 14, 1965. Following his service to our country, Nick spent 16 years working for Steelcase in California, retiring after 16 years with full retirement.
He then began his entrepreneurial journey by purchasing a Barros Pizza and later purchased a pool cleaning and repair business. In 1993, he moved from Arizona to Oklahoma to be closer to his father and sister.
Survivors include his wife, Emily; two daughters, Anisa Blackburn of Sulphur and Becky Jantz of Chickasha; three sons, Ron Blackburn of California, Kelly Blackburn of Sulphur and Justin Gates of Yukon; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one sister, Jenny Moon of Sulphur.
