Deaf school votes to change its mascot

The Oklahoma School for the Deaf in Sulphur announced on Monday that it is changing its mascot from the Indians to the Bison. The school announced the change on its facebook page.
“We are pleased to announce the new OSD mascot! The Oklahoma School for the Deaf BISON was approved by the DRS Commission earlier today and will go into effect immediately,” the statement read.
School officials worked with its alumni to make the decision and select a new mascot.
“Thank you to all the alumni who participated in this historic moment in OSD history. Bison was the overwhelming winner with 67% of the vote,” it said.
“Today OSD begins a new chapter. A logo design committee will be meeting soon to develop our new school imagery. OSD students, staff, coaches, and alumni will develop ideas and will share with all of you. We are proud to lead the way. GO BISON!”
