Janice Marie “Wynema” Batson

Janice Marie “Wynema” Batson died on Sept. 24, 2021. She was born in Guthrie on Sept. 15, 1945, to the late John and Louise Whitehorn.
Batson grew up in Sulphur. Later in life, she made the move with her mother to Berkeley Springs, W.V., where she graduated high school in 1963. She married Joe McCoy of Berkeley Springs, on Sept. 22, 1963. From this marriage was born Tiffany and Nate McCoy. After divorcing Joe, she moved back to Sulphur, meeting her soul mate, Jerry “Joe” Batson. On May 30, 1980, they married in Gainesville, Texas, and soon welcomed Jera and Rainey Batson into the world.
Batson moved to Sanger, Texas, in 1996, where she and her family remained for 21 years. She moved to Thackerville in 2016, living life to the fullest, spending time with her kids and grandchildren.
Survivors include her four children, Tiffany McCoy of Ft. Worth, Texas, Nate McCoy of Berkeley Springs, W.V., Jera Braly of Thackerville; and Rainey Hitt, also of Thackerville; 11 grandchildren; and siblings, Bobby Lee Hawvermale of Martinsburg, W.V,, Linda Frantz of Sulphur, Deanna Cheshewalla of Thackerville, Tandy Taylor of Magnolia, Texas; and Rod Edwan of Farmerville, Texas.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021, at Hale’s Memorial Chapel in Sulphur, with Pastor Michael Caraway officiating.Interment will follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday evening, Sept. 29, 2021, at the funeral home.
