Spring Break ball games in Wright City Festival prove tough for Wolves

The Davis baseball team dropped a pair of games over Spring Break in its annual trip to the Wright City Festival. The Wolves faced stiff competition from Class A, playing at No. 2 Rattan and at the host site, No. 8 Wright City.
“They’re two good baseball teams,” said Davis head coach Chance Linville. “Two fall-spring teams that play year around.”
Rattan 6, Davis 3
Davis jumped out to a 3-0 start March 16 but was unable to hold the lead against the Rams.
The Wolves scored one run in the first. Sophomore Spencer Clinton highlighted the top of the second with a 2-run homerun, his first of the season.
Rattan answered with two runs in the third, two in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Senior Gavin Moore made his third start of the season on the mound. The right hander worked five innings against the Rams. Clinton pitched an inning of relief for the Wolves.
Wright City 12, Davis 2
The Lumberjax scored on Davis early and often March 17 in route to their four inning, run-rule win. Wright City scored four runs in the first and led 12-0 after three.
The Wolves scored two runs in the top of the fourth.
Senior Raydyn Amos made his first start for Davis. The Wolves committed 10 errors in the game.
Davis was scheduled to play a third game in the festival against Allen but that contest was canceled due to rain.
Davis returns to district action this week, having home/away series with Community Christian School (CCS) March 21 and 22 and Washington March 25 and 26.
