Maxine Lannom Morton

• Maxine was born Aug. 11, 1927, to Robert Moore and Sarah Owens Moore in Sulphur, Okla., in her grandparents home, Mr. and Mrs. Owens, where the Murray County Expo Center sits now. She grew up there. Attended Valley View School through seventh grade and she went into Sulphur High School. She graduated in 1946.
She passed away on July 14, 2022, at 94 years, 11 months and 28 days in Sulphur, Okla.
She married her highschool sweetheart July 21, 1945, while he was still in the Navy during World War 2. They met through Bob Mobly and his sister, Betts Mobly. They raised 3 daughters Tresa, Jolene and Janelle.
During her first 20 years of marriage, she spent it watching her husband pitch softball and baseball. Also, she spent many hours at football and basketball games with him and her daughters and later watched her grandkids and great-grandkids play various sports over the years.
She was a homemaker, sewed everything her girls and herself ever wore, loved cooking and probably most of you have had a piece of her famous pies or brownies and enjoyed spending time with her whole family. She was a very involved member of the OSU Extension Homemakers Club, Murray County Historical Society, Modern Martha Sunday School Class and a lifetime member of Crossway First Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her church family and enjoyed her role as nursery coordinator for 30 years.
Her husband “Bill” of 48 years passed away suddenly Dec. 13, 1992. In May 1997 she married Dick Morton, a long time friend of Hennepin. He died suddenly Sept. 13, 2003. Those who preceded her in death were: her father, Robert; mother, Sarah; and step-dad of 50 years, Paul Lemons; her only brother, Leroy Moore and sister-in-law, Pam Moore Barnes.
Those surviving are daughters: Tresa and Lloyd Snow of Sand Springs, Jolene and Rendall Cole of Sulphur, Janelle and Lawayne Gilbert of Sulphur; grandchildren: Heath and Jessica of Sulphur, Corey and Carrie Cole of Sulphur, Clete and Kerri Cole of Sulphur, Bradley and Lezlie Gilbert of Tahlequah, Curt and Shawna Cole of Whitesboro, Texas; and Brooke and Landon Wood of Sulphur; great-grandchildren: Hali and Braden Ruth of Sulphur, Rance, Trentlee, and Rhett Gilbert of Sulphur, Caden, Carter and Casten Cole all of Sulphur, Carlee, Colten, Cooper and Coby Cole all of Sulphur, Taber and Carsyn Gilbert of Tahlequah, Maddy and Jenna Cole of Whitesboro, Texas, and Drake and Nate Wood of Sulphur. She had one great-great-grandson Branson Ruth on the way who she was so excited to meet; 3 step-children Ron Morton of Hennepin, Vickie Morton of Davis, LuAnn and Jody Milligan of Hennepin; 2 nieces Denise and Tony Duck of Sulphur and LeeAnn and Clint Norton of Sulphur; half-sisters Bobbie Olsen, Patsy James, Lahoma Lindegard, Linda Carson, Karen Groves and Sherri Eaken; one half-brother, Buddy Moore; brother-in-law De and Ruth Lannom of Sulphur; nieces Deanna and RC Elliott of Sulphur, Amy and Greg Kiser of Ada, Terri Lannom of Ardmore, Linda Boyer of Ardmore, and
Gail Anderson of Ardmore; and nephew, Jimmy and Bobbye Lannom of Newcastle.
Services were at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 18, 2022, at Crossway First Baptist Church  with Rev. Bill Leveridge officiating. Interment followed at Oaklawn Cemetery in Sulphur. Arrangements are by DeArman Funeral Home of Sulphur.
