One lifter on the Wolves junior school powerlifting team and four from the high school squad qualified for State at their regional meets held this past week at Anadarko.
Gage Coppenbarger earned his way to junior high State placing third at regionals March 2. Competing at 123 pounds, the freshman lifted 275 pounds in the squat, 165 pounds on the bench and 265 on the deadlift for a 705 total.
Coppenbarger will travel to El Reno March 9.
“I’m super excited for Gage,” said Davis head coach Hunter Fullerton. “This being his first time going through the whole powerlifting season. I’m really excited for him.”
Seniors Sevy Adams and Chase Stewart both placed third in their respective weight classes at the Southwest Small Schools Regionals March 10 and advanced.
Adams (145) posted 285 on squat, 225 pounds on bench and 385 pounds on deadlift for an 895 total. Stewart (198) recorded a 1205 total with 450 pounds on squat, 300 pounds on bench and 455 pounds on deadlift.
“I’m super excited for my seniors who made it to State,” Fullerton said of Adams and Stewart. “For as hard as they’ve worked and the many things they’ve had to work through to finally be able to punch their ticket to go into State.”
Sophomore Jacob McClellen, a state champion from a year ago in the junior high heavyweight division, punched his ticket to this year’s high school State finishing fourth at Regionals.
McClellan registered 515 on squat, 315 on bench and 530 on deadlift for a 1360 total.
“For Jacob, to go from junior high last year and then go into high school this year and still be able to be competitive and earn a lot of points, I’m excited for him,” Fullerton said.
Sophomore Asher Waters placed seventh at 123 pounds and was rewarded with a State-qualifying at-large bid. He lifted 250 on squat, 125 on bench and 300 on deadlift for a 675 total.
Adams, Stewart, McClellen and Waters will compete in the Small Schools State Meet March 11 at El Reno.
Fullerton took 20 lifters to Regionals. The Wolves tallied 45 points and placed fourth among eight Class 2A teams.
