Hazel was born Aug. 28, 1927, in Roff, to the late Henry Lee and Myrtle Ruth (Glasgow) Grantham. She passed from this life on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, in Oklahoma City, at the age of 95 years, 6 months and 9 days. Hazel and C.L. Risner were married on Nov. 1, 1948, in Sulphur. He preceded her in death on July 23, 1985.
Growing up in the Prairie View Community, Hazel attended elementary school in Roff and later graduated from Stratford High School. After high school, she began her working career as a secretary for the Garvin County Abstract Co. in Pauls Valley. Once she and C.L. married, Hazel devoted her time to her family, as a stay-at-home wife and mother.
In June of 1968, C.L. and Hazel ventured into business, opening The Arbuckle Sports Center in Davis, where she would devote the next 54 years of her life. Hazel was the driving force behind the family owned and operated business. After C.L.’s death, she continued to work daily with her two sons and daughter to carry on their successful family business. Due to her failing health, Hazel “retired” in 2019; however, she continued her involvement with the family business by offering her guidance and knowledge, when and where she felt it was needed.
As often as she could, Hazel enjoyed spending time at their vacation home on the Texas gulf coast, where she spent most of her time gigging flounder fish. She also enjoyed gardening, tending her flower beds, and fishing. Hazel was an avid fan of the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team, knowing each player’s name.
Hazel was a member of the Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi, and the Central Church.
