It’s Homecoming Week in Davis
Friday Davis will face Pauls Valley at Wolf Field! Kickoff will be at 8 p.m. This decision was made due to expected high temperatures on Friday. School administrators and coaches hope that an 8 p.m. kickoff will provide cooler temperatures for players and fans for the first game of the year.
Homecoming coronation festivities begin at 7:15 p.m. This year’s candidates are sophomore, Preslee Hunt; junior, Cayden Buckaloo; and Senior, Presley Smith.
Alumni Hall of Fame Inductees this year include Darin Rogers, class of 1987 and Brandon Tomlinson, class of 1995. They will be introduced at halftime.
The selection committee felt the attributes and accomplishments exhibited by these two alumni were more than deserving of the honor. “They will be showcased during the parade, featured during pregame festivities and honored at the alumni reception Saturday,” said Davis High School Alumni board member Heath Foster.
Before the game, celebrations begin with the Homecoming Parade.
Friday’s Homecoming Parade theme will be Superheroes. The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Fifth Street. Those wishing to participate can still sign up by calling (580) 369-5541 and asking for Diane Birkes at Davis High School. She will assign each participant a number and a position for the parade. Participants should line up no later than 1 p.m. on Fifth Street. There will be a pep assembly on the south side of Third Street at stop light following the parade.
No candy can be thrown from floats, cars, fire trucks, any vehicles or cars this year. Candy may be handed out by someone walking alongside each parade entry this year.
Saturday, festivities continue with the Alumni Banquet.
The banquet will be a come and go reception from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Davis Public Schools Cafeteria. There will be snack food, Alumni Hall of Fame Recognition and time for alumni to catch up and reminisce. This year will be free to attend as well. Alumni coordinators say they understand the importance of this tradition and continue to work to ensure to continue its legacy.
