Powerlifting Season Starts at Liftathon

The Davis powerlifters opened their season Jan. 23 at the All-American Liftathon held at the Firelake Arena in Shawnee. The Wolves took 22 lifters and finished sixth among 26 other teams with 99 points.
Five from Davis placed including Jacob McClellan who took first in the heavyweight division with the highest squat and total for the day. He posted 575 on squat, 365 on bench and 605 on deadlift for a 1545 total.
Jaxon Wright also won first at 145 pounds. The freshman recorded 335 on squat, 195 on bench and 320 on deadlift for an 850 total.
Junior Fisher Smith (181) finished second with a 1085 total. He lifted 405 on squat, 275 on bench and 405 on deadlift.
Cassidy Parsons was second in her girls’ weight class. She registered 165 on squat, 115 on bench and 215 on deadlift for a 495 total.
Nick Pruitt (132) was fourth with a 625 total. He had 225 on squat, 150 on bench and 250 on deadlift.
“I expect this year’s group to be extremely competitive,” head coach Hunter Fullerton said. “The hours spent lifting and training in the weightroom is really starting to show results.”
According to Fullerton, Davis had three other lifters one point shy of medaling.
The next meet for the Wolves will be Feb. 15 at the Dave Tapp Invitational in Chickasha.
