Wolves Down Lexington, Wrestle at Midwestern

Davis wrestling dropped Lexington in a dual on Jan. 23 then competed last weekend at the Midwestern Conference Tournament held at the Firelake Arena in Shawnee.
The Wolves followed up their 60-24 win over the Bulldogs with a 12th-place showing amongst 22 teams.
Davis claimed three matches against Lexington by pin. Ricky Ivey won by fall at 144 pounds, as did Ethan May at 165 and Brenden Rawls at 215.
Dalton Johnson (106), Asher Digby (120), Hagen Sims (126), Ryan Griffin (132), Jeremiah Jones (138), Rance Digby (175), and Luke Johnson (190) won by forfeit.
Garrett Deaton (150), Maverick Alexander (157) and Mason Tomlinson (285) were all pinned. The Wolves surrendered a forfeit at 113.
Cayden Buckaloo and Bintlee Burch both wrestled against Lexington and won by pin.
Eight grapplers represented Davis at the tourney on Jan. 26-27. The Wolves earned 67 team points.
Jett Jennings went 4-1 at 165 and finished third. Rance Digby was 5-1 and placed third. His only loss came in sudden overtime.
“Dalton Johnson took sixth place,” head coach Ryan Bates said. “It was an awesome tournament for Manny (Dalton). It’s fun to watch Dalton when Dalton is having fun wrestling. Dalton was having fun wrestling this weekend.”
Together, Buckaloo and Burch scored 44 points and were tenth in the 19-team field. Buckaloo, now 22-3, won all four of her matches with first-period pins. Burch, 24-5, was 3-1 and took third.
Davis will prep for Girls’ Regionals Feb. 12-13 and Boys’ Regionals Feb. 16-17.
