Bill Joe Pope

Graveside services, with military honors, for Bill Joe Pope were held at 2 p.m., Feb. 6, 2024, at the Oaklawn Cemetery, in Sulphur, with Tony Peek officiating.
Pope was born March 1, 1935, in Sulphur, to the late Leo Levi and Zela Inez (Onstott) Pope. He died Saturday, January 27, 2024, in Sulphur, at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 26 days.
Pope grew up on the family farm north of Sulphur. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, prior to joining the United States Navy. After devoting 14 years of loyal service to our country, he received an honorable discharge on April 27, 1966. After his military service, he returned home and began a career as a truck driver. Much of his truck driving included transporting mobile homes.
Survivors include his son, James Pope of Roff; grandson, Remington Pope of Latta; granddaughter, Emerson Pope of Roff; great-granddaughter, Spencer Kove Pope; and three sisters, Margaret Miller of Maysville, Dorothy Trett of Sulphur, and Gloria Brooks of Dougherty.
Services are “Entrusted to” Hale’s Funeral Home of Sulphur.
