Eleven members of the Davis fast-pitch softball team received postseason recognition last week when coaches from Class 3A District 1 released their All-District selections. Four Lady Wolves’ starters including Kensley Barnes (catcher), Shelby Courtney (utility), Addison Danker (pitcher) and Preslee Hunt (outfield) were named to the First Team.
Representing Davis on the Second Team were Stella Baker (third base), Kamryn Martin (second base), Adison Ryan (outfield) and Mattie Morton (first base). The Honorable Mention list also included Jakobi LaNoy (shortstop), Emerson Henley (pitcher) and Addison Romo (second base).
“We were fortunate enough to have several girls being selected,” Lady Wolves’ head coach Stefan Hunt said. “I was excited that we had four First Team girls make it. On top of that, we had four girls make the Second Team and three girls make Honorable Mention. Finishing as well as we did in the district allowed us to have that many girls make the team.”
Davis placed third in the league at 6-4. The Lady Wolves, 21-13 overall, were eliminated by host Alva at Regionals.
“I was just really excited for the girls,” Coach Hunt said. “For them to receive some postseason awards and accolades and recognition. I’m happy for the whole team in general. We had a lot of girls not mentioned that were key contributors to the team all year.”
Courtney finished with a .439 batting average with 43 hits, 30 runs scored, 29 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. Defensively, the senior had a .857 fielding average.
“I thought Shelby had probably one of her best years,” Coach Hunt said. “She was just a workhorse all year whenever it seemed like we needed a run. She stepped up. Whenever we needed something offensively to happen, it just happened to be her time up in the lineup.”
Barnes batted .416 with 40 hits, 23 RBIs, 28 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. The senior also posted a .889 fielding average.
“Kensley was one of the best catchers around,” Coach Hunt said. “Had a really good year defensively and offensively. Going to obviously miss her leadership behind the plate once she graduates.”
Danker hit for a .299 batting average. On the mound, the senior went 16-8 with 112 strikeouts.
“I don’t know if we’d won as many games that we did without Addison,” Coach Hunt said. “She had a really productive senior campaign and threw a lot of innings. She pitched really well throughout the year.”
Preslee Hunt had 30 hits, 13 runs scored and 14 RBIs with a .386 batting average. The junior played center field and registered a .944 fielding average.
“Preslee is just solid,” Coach Hunt said. “There were lots of times we needed an out and in my mind I’d say, ‘hit it to center field.’ I knew Preslee would catch it. She does everything really good and is just dependable.”
